Dr Rainald Duerksen, a renowned ophthalmologist, is running an important training project in the Democratic Republic of Congo on behalf of the Christoffel Blind Mission (CBM). The aim of the project is to improve eye care and train local eye care professionals.

As part of this project, Dr Duerksen performed a remarkable operation at the General Hospital in Kikwit. Using the FLAIR P7 microscope, he operated on a pastor who had been blind for five or six years. The operation was a complete success: the pastor can now see and is beaming with joy.

Dr Duerksen and his team also like to use the FLAIR P7 with its video technology for training purposes.

The combination of direct patient care and the training of local specialists promotes sustainable development in the health sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
